HISTORY

The Boy Scouts of America granted a charter to Sacred Heart Church Holy Name Society for the first time in 1936. Troop 47 was now born. The troop flourished for many years helping to build youth leaders in the community. When the Minsi Trails Council was formed in 1969 the former Lehigh County, Bethlehem Area, and Delaware Valley Councils were merged into one strong unit. As the number of troops continued to grow the need for territories came about and districts were formed. Troop 47 fell into district 3 which became known as South Mountain District. The 3 was added to all the units and the troop was now known as 347.

Over the years Troop 347 has helped countless numbers of boys gain the leadership skills necessary for life. Many have reached scoutings highest rank - Eagle.

The members, youth and adult, of Troop 347 would like to continue to thank the Sacred Heart Church Holy Name Society for their countless years of support of this Troop. If it was not for you and your support, none of this would be possible.

Adult volunteers are the key element that scouting needs to function. Many men have taken on the difficult job of scoutmaster over the 65 years of the troop. Mike Faccinetto is the current scoutmaster and is aided closely by the Assistant Scoutmaster Judy Keretz along with Committee Members: Jim Wagner, Dan Dillard, Bob Yost, Butch Keretz, Brenda Demyan, Jennifer & Scott Hawk and the rest of the dedicated Troop parent volunteers. These Scouters are committed to continue to deliver the scout promise to the boys that come through the troop.

MEETINGS

Troop 347 meets weekly on a Sunday night from 7 - 8:30PM. The meetings are held in the Coolidge Building (former Bethlehem Township municipal building) at 2460 Fifth Street in Bethlehem Township. All boys between the ages of 11 and 17 are welcome to attend and give Scouting a try.
